Visit of Mr. Rüdiger König

Mr. Rüdiger König

On October 31st, the ZiiK welcomed Mr. Rüdiger König, Head of the Directorate‑General for Humanitarian Assistance, Crisis Prevention, Stabilisation and Post‑Conflict Reconstruction at the Federal Foreign Office and former German Ambassador in Kabul.

Mr. König took the time to get to know the 25 Afghan students of the fifth generation of the Master's program and to inform himself about the status of the project.

In the beginning, Dr. Nazir Peroz welcomed Mr. König, all students and then thanked Mr. König as a long-time supporter o88927f the projects of the ZiiK very cordially for the great cooperation.

Mr. König addressed himself directly to the students and emphasized the value of such a Master's program for the individual development of each student as well as for the future of their home country. Young and well educated people are a great asset for the Afghan society.


In the following, Mr. Daniel Tippmann, research assistant at the ZiiK, briefly presented the work and philosophy of the ZiiK with a particular focus on the special demand-oriented orientation of the Master's program and the past four generations of students who have been educated at TU Berlin since 2008.

After this brief overview, Ms. Azita Azimi and Mr. Khalid Siddiqi, the two group speakers of the current generation, reported on their experiences in the 2018 selection process and on their studies at TU Berlin. They also talked about their two-month application projects in Afghanistan from which they just returned to TU Berlin in September. They also expressed their thanks to Mr. König and the Federal Foreign Office for their financial support and for making this Master's programme possible.

After the short presentations, there was an open discussion with all participants, in which Mr. König also reported on his time as a diplomat and ambassador in Afghanistan. He also emphasized once again the importance of transparency and good governance in Afghanistan and encouraged the students to serve their country transparently and responsibly as a new generation of civil servants in the future.
