15th IT Conference in Kabul

From December 16th through 18th 2019, the 15th IT Conference took place in Kabul on the campus of the Ministry of Higher Education. The aim of this year's three-day IT conference was to discuss measures for a digital strategy for Afghanistan and to develop a road map for its implementation with over 200 participants.

After the opening ceremony on the first day, the five winners of the 4th IT-exhibition were awarded. Afterwards, Dr. Nazir Peroz, Head of the ZiiK the TU Berlin, presented the Digital Strategy Afghanistan 2020. On the next day, this strategy was further debated during three workshops on digital education, digital infrastructure, as well as digital management, law and regulations. Finally, the results of these workshops were presented and discussed on the third conference day.

Among the conference guests were the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Bary Sediqi, the National Security Advisor to the President, Dr. Hamdullah Mohib, and the Minister of Technology and Communications, Mr. Fahim Hashemi, who also opened the conference. In addition, representatives of further ministries, presidents and heads of IT departments of Afghan universities, deans of computer science faculties, Afghan computer science Master's graduates from TU Berlin, as well as numerous press representatives attended the conference.

Finally, on 21 December 2019, Dr. Nazir Peroz presented the results of the conference to the President of Afghanistan Dr. Ashraf Ghani, in the presence of the German Ambassador, Mr. PrĂ¼gel, the Minister of Communication and IT, Mr. Hashemi, the Minister of Higher Education, Mr. Balakarzai, the Head of the Central Statistics Organization of Afghanistan, Mr. Rasuli, and the Master's graduates from TU Berlin. All participants agreed that in the future there must be a single national IT strategy to be coordinated by the "National Forum for Digital Transformation in Afghanistan" (NDTFA).

Since 2005, the IT Conference has been organized annually by the ZiiK of TU Berlin in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and the ITCC Afghanistan. It was financially supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the German Foreign Office.
