Scientific Defense by Mr Abdul Rahman Sherzad

The ZiiK is currently supporting six students from
Afghanistan in their doctoral projects with funds from the Federal
Foreign Office and through support of the DAAD. The first, Mr Abdul
Rahman Sherzad, has now successfully defended his dissertation on
Friday 13th 2018.
Mr Sherzad presented his work on the topic "Shaping the Selection of Fields of Study in Afghansitan through Educational Data Mining Approaches" in detail and then answered the questions of the PhD Committee.
It was composed of the chairman of the comittee Prof. Dr. Ziawasch Abedjan, the supervisor Prof. Dr. Nestmann (TU Berlin) and the reviewers Prof. Dr. Niels Pinkwart (HU Berlin), Prof. Dr. Sebastian Bab (Fachhochschule Dortmund) and Dr. Nazir Peroz (TU Berlin).
Abdul Rahman Sherzad's dissertation mainly introduces data-informed approaches using educational data mining techniques to empower academic advisors to recommend fields of study to high school students and graduates based on their competences, interests and preferences as well as to support academic policymakers to improve and reshape the education system, mainly, in developing countries.
The ZiiK team congratulates Mr Sherzad wholeheartedly and wishes him every success in his future work in Afghanistan.
