Lecture: Computer science and developing countries

Lectures offer in-depth insights into specific issues regarding the use of information technology in poorer and crisis-stricken countries. Examples of topics or concepts include: development, developing countries, IT structures, e-waste, IT security and technology-transfer, among others.

Selected countries are analyzed and demand-oriented IT concepts are developed, taking into account the specific cultural, economic and infrastructural situation locally. Concrete projects produce innovative ideas, which are then further developed and implemented by the students. Such projects play an important role for the development of those countries, for example by creating IT structures, promoting development in the private economy and by supporting the adoption of e-government principles. Lastly, lectures also provide a platform to discuss foreign academic policies („Außenwissenschaftspolitik“) as well as for scientific, intercultural dialogue.
