ZiiK has been realising projects within the development co-operation sector for many years, in regular partnership with the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst / DAAD) and the World Bank, among others. The goal of these projects has been to establish structures in the area of IT and computer science.

Some examples include:

Since 2002, ZiiK has been supporting and fostering the creation of IT structures at Afghan universities and the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

To date, five university IT centers have been established, (dozens of) IT administrators have received vocational training, and curricula for computer science bachelor studies in Afghanistan and a TU Berlin-based master's program for computer science lecturers from Afghanistan have been developed. To close the loop of academic education, the centre also awards PhD scholarships to Afghan computer scientists. In February 2016, an IT competence center (ITCC) in Afghanistan was opened in co-operation with the MoHE, in order to assist the development of the country's private economy.

ZiiK has been supporting the creation of IT structures at Iraqi universities since 2009. Core measures include vocational trainings for IT administrators, as well as conferences and workshops.

ZiiK has been working with the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis of the University El-Manar in Tunis/Tunisia since 2011. The co-operation has so far included holding workshops and conferences, with more projects in the pipeline.

Since 2016, ZiiK has been co-operating with the Jordan University of Science and Technology. Projects have so far included workshops and conferences, with more projects in the pipeline.
